ABOUT

Growing up in the coastal town of Annaba, Algeria, Lotfi Zennadi never imagined that one day he'd end up as a painter in Sacramento, California. Yet, even as an adolescent he distinguished himself as an artist and citizen of the world - curious about other cultures and people and eager to translate his evolving perspective using the language that came most naturally to him - art!

As a student at the Fine Arts University in Algiers, Lotfi received formal training in a range of mediums, ultimately setting his focus on graphic art. It was during his time as a student, in 1997, that he was invited to exhibit at the Biennial of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean in Torino, Italy - his first exposure in Europe. This would lead to many more exhibitions including showings in Helsinki, Rome, the South of France, and Paris.

After school, Lotfi pursued his career as a graphic artist for many leading industrial companies in Algeria, but Europe was never far from his mind and by 2003 he had secured a place in the Masters program at E.C.V. Art School in Paris.

Once completing his Masters of Fine Arts, Lotfi continued his professional development in the French capital. Working for a variety of print houses and magazines, his passion and artistic skill flourished.  It was during this time that Lotfi began to refocus his attention on painting.

Since settling in the United States, Lotfi continues to provide graphic design and consultant services on a freelance basis. Lotfi's art merges his work in three mediums: graphic arts, paint and photography. His evolving style features bold colors and large sweeping movements, communicating a vitality and migration that is not dissimilar from his own personal journey. Contemplating his large scale canvases, audiences journey in landscape, memory, space and time with each viewing leading to a different experience.
